c. 1969 BH Wragge orange and white tweed jacket with a center fornt zipper. BH Wragge was established in 1920 by Bernard H. Wragge. It was acquired by Sidney Wragge in 1931, as a maker of both men's shirts and women's blouses. By the late 1930s, Wragge had developed the idea of separates, and the company produced coordinated blouses, skirts, pants, coats and other pieces that were meant to mix and match. From the late 1930s and into the 1950s, each BH Wragge collection was based on a theme, with the fabrics often designed by famous artists. These clothes were geared toward a young customer, and BH Wragge clothes were very popular with the college set. Toward the end of the 1940s, the company changed its image somewhat, and began doing more dresses and suits. By the 1960s, they were producing evening dresses. The company closed in 1971. c. 1960s Lovely winter white coat from Jacques Heim’s Paris atelier. There is a size 10 tag in the coat. The coat has a rounded neckline and makes use of darts and tucks for the fit of the upper portion of the coat. The two-part sleeves are glove length. Three large white buttons close the center front of the coat. The lower portion of the coat suggests the cocoon coat of the 1920s. This is achieved with the deeply cut side pleats that hide the slash pockets, drawing in the lower portion of the coat. The coat is lined in winter white rayon. (1899-1967) Jacques Heim was born into a furrier family and started out in the family business designing furs. In 1923 he took over the business, and within a few years had added a couture department. He was an innovator in using cuttings of furs as one would a fabric. Heim's couture house was opened in the Avenue Matignon in Paris in 1930. He also made ready-to-wear, and in 1936 started a line for younger women, Heim Jeunes Filles. In 1946 Heim started his own chain of sportwear boutiques. He was one of the early designers of the bikini, called the Atome, and he was known for his beachwear. In the same year Heim visited the United States in order to establish contracts with several US department stores for which he was to design collections. Another ready-to-wear line, Heim Actualite, was begun in 1950. The House of Heim closed in 1969, two years after the designer's death. Bio Source-Vintage Fashion Guild |

C. 1960s Tina Lesser red silk chiffon skirt with purple and gold print and gold thread looped embroidery. Along the bottom of the skirt is a bright green silk satin panel layered with white tulle and gold trim. Matching green satin waistband and lined in red China Silk. Bio: Tina Leser was an early and very successful proponent of an American design aesthetic inspired by textiles and clothing from non-Western cultures. She traveled through Asia, India, and Africa as a child, and lived in Hawaii after her first marriage in 1931, which may explain the ease with which she later adapted influences from those areas into her designs. Although she is remembered today primarily for this gift, her success was not confined to that genre, but also encompassed references to other folk and historical traditions. |

C.1960s Wonderful Nina Ricci two-piece dress and matching jacket in a rich gold lined in yellow silk. The little sheath dress is designed like a jumper with the shoulder straps appearing to be buttoned into the bodice of the dress. This is of course just a decorative design element and not functional. The neckline is straight and open in the jumper style. Curving seam lines with a slightly a-line shape to the skirt. The little matching jacket has long slender sleeves and welt buttonholes with yellow buttons to close the center front. The dress closes with a zipper up the center back. Hidden side seam slant pockets. |

C. 1960s Fabulous Norman Norell lime green wool coat with a very 1920s feel to the cut. The coat is very cocoon like as it narrows as it travels down the body. Faux double breasted closes with large green buttons. The rolled pointed collar is helped to stay in place by the inner button on the inside right of the coat. Two very large patch pockets accent the front of the coat. Lined in celery green shantung silk. The full three-quarter sleeves have a five-inch wide cuff with matching green buttons. Bio: Norell stayed with his same basic designs, continually refining them over the years. He developed the idea that there should be only one center of interest in an outfit, and designed only what he liked. |

c. 1960s: Great looking two-piece dress in textured cotton silk blend fabric in a basket weave plaid design in brown and white. The bodice of the slim fitting dress is of taupe silk satin with high neckline with an button on neck tie. The taupe silk sleeves are narrow and close at the wrist with small zippers. There are two water spots on the silk on the arms near the elbow. The bodice joins the narrow skirt above the natural waistline. The skirt has a center front accent yoke with four buttons that create the look of an opening but it is faux. The bolero jacket is collarless and is double breasted and stops at the point on the dress where the bodice and skirt join. Long body darts control fit on the back of the dress. Oleg Cassini has had an extremely varied, glamorous, and exotic career but is perhaps best known for the personal style and clothing he developed when official designer for First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in 1961. He worked closely with Mrs. Kennedy, a personal friend, and together they created many widely copied garments that became American fashion classics and firmly established Kennedy as a style leader. c. 1960s Beautiful black tweed suit from the Originala label for Neiman Marcus. If you open a 60s vogue magazine this is the label you will see advertised a lot for Neiman’s. Not sure if it should be in this section but am including it anyway. The suit is a wool and silk tweed woven together in a basket weave pattern. The jacket is accented around the neckline and down the center front with gold and black silk flat cording. The same cording is used to accent the four patch pockets and the cuff edges. It is used again on the skirt to accent the waistband. Elaborate raised gold scrolled buttons close the jacket at center front and adorn the pockets flaps and the sleeve above the turned back cuffs. The sleeves are long to the wrist and turn back to reveal a white cuff. A gold link chain is also employed along the inside jacket hemline for weighting. The jacket and skirt are fully lined in black rayon. The skirt wraps right over left. |

C. 1960s Ungaro crimson red cotton corduroy double-breasted coat with matching belt. The buckle of the belt has worn edges. Squared collar with coat closing up to throat if desired. The cuffs on the sleeves are also belted with matching buttons. BIO: Approaching 50 years in fashion, Ungaro can look back and see he had indeed accomplished his goal of "seducing the woman." His early training in the atelier of Balenciaga taught Ungaro about line and color. He still refers to what he learned about draping directly on the model. Later, working with Courreges, Ungaro participated in the Space Age hard chic of his mentor. |
