1990s Late 90s Ann Demeulemeester skirt in black parachute fabric backed with an olive brushed cotton. The skirt shows her continued love of asymmetrically draping with the fabric gathered into the vertical shirring. A drawstring at the wide waistband contains the fullness at the waist area. Demeulemeester's clothes are often termed minimalist, yet they sometimes feature a certain amount of complexity. In the late 1990s, her twist tank tops and handkerchief-wrap dresses which typify her love of twisting and asymmetrical silhouettes came with instructions. She loves a variety of unusual fabrics, such as painter's canvas, parachute nylon, polished leather, washed denim and distressed suede. Her interest in unusual fabrics adds a surprising amount of diversity to all-white or all-black ensembles. She takes simple items such as a t-shirt or slacks and gives them an almost sculptural feel, often through the use of innovative surface treatments. Her accessories designs are also critically acclaimed. Bio source-Answers.com |

c. 1990s Carolyn Roehm gorgeous red silk evening gown or ball gown with pleated halter and bodice. The boned fitted bodice is made up of pleated and draped red silk with the bust being draped horizontally and lapping right over left. The pleated silk of the left breast extends down below the right breast. Directly opposite that is a smaller section of vertically pleated silk. Beginning below the right breast and at the right side seam another section of pleated silk runs diagonally across the bodice. The back is made up of two sections of the pleated silk lapping right over left. The dress closes with a side seam zipper and snaps at the skirt. The very full skirt is tightly gathered into the natural waistline seam. Beneath the silk are attached red tulle crinolines. Roehm designed for women, like herself, who had money and an active life, involved with benefits and social events, but who might also work outside the home. She is known for well-detailed, finely constructed, feminine clothes created to make women feel elegant. Fabrics were rich: cashmere, satin, velvet, and suede. Details might include trapunto stitching, embroidery, or leather trim. Roehm's eveningwear was glamorous, fairytale-like, to be seen in at social occasions and photographed at charity events. The dresses could be cut full and made of rich fabrics, reminiscent of those worn in the aristocratic portraits of the artist Franz Winterhalter, or sleek, sensuous columns recalling John Singer Sargent's Madame X. She closed her design buisness in 1991. Bio source-Answers.com & VFG |

c. 1990s Great looking Ferragamo red wool suit. The jacket is square cut and has a center front chrome zipper and two slit pockets. The long narrow sleeves repeat the chrome zippers at the wrists. Top seaming accents the lines of the jacket. After his death in 1960 his family continued to the firm and in addition to producing quality shoes branched out into accessories and designer apparel. Wife Wanda ran the firm; daughter Fiamma, who had worked by her father's side from when she was a teenager, took over designing and producing the shoes; Giovanna initiated women's ready-to-wear; Ferruccio was at his mother's side and helped run the company; Fulvia handled all accessories bearing the firm's name; Leonardo oversaw marketing and introduced Ferragamo to Asia; Massimo headed the burgeoning North American operations. Despite its successful expansion, the Ferragammo name remains world renowned for its shoes. Fiamma's creations, as beautiful and unique as those of her father, are still the Ferragamo's principal selling point in boutiques in the U.S. and throughout Europe and the Far East. c. 1990s Herve Leger little black dress with ribbed black velvet bodice with a halter neckline and shoulder straps. A deeply scooped neckline in front and back. High waistline connects the velvet bodice to the Lycra/Spandex skirt. Center back zipper closes the dress. If any designer heralded the shift away from the deconstructed, loose, long shapes of the early 1990s it was Herve Leger. His clothes, based on the deceptively simple principles of Lycra and spandex-rich fabrics pulling the body into the desired hourglass shape, have made him the darling of the fashion world. Leger's concentration on the ability of clothing to create the desired flattering silhouette, through manipulation of fabrics and eye-arresting details, owes its legacy to his couture background. His time at great houses like Chanel, Fendi, and Chloe enabled him to witness the power of a thoughtfully cut ensemble to transform the wearer. His homage to the goddess-like form touched on the desire to demonstrate beauty through strong, clear lines and sexually charged imagery that his clinging dresses so literally embodied. c. 1998-2002 Roberto Cavalli fabulous ultra-stretchy black dress with diagonal gold zipper that runs from the v-neckline down the center front then turning to wrap around tall the way around body ending on the opposite side near the bottom hem. The fabric is all gathered into the length from bodice to side just below hip line. This dress is ultra sexy and form fitting as befits this master sculpture of clothing for a women’s body. Always a head turner! Like his contemporary Zandra Rhodes, Roberto Cavalli is firstly a textile artist who uses his fabrics as canvasses for his fashions. Roberto Cavalli was born November 15, 1940 in Florence, Italy into a family with strong artistic traditions. His mother was a tailor and his grandfather a Florentine impressionist painter, whose works reside in the Uffizi Museum. He turned up the gas on his designs in order to stir intense vibrations; sophisticated elegance with a touch of transgression. Stretch became ultra-stretch. |

c. 1990s Emauel Ungaro 80s crisp banded linen sundress in white, beige and black. Deep scoop necklines in front and back with a center back zipper. Lined in white rayon-like fabric. Approaching 50 years in fashion, Ungaro can look back and see he had indeed accomplished his goal of "seducing the woman." His early training in the atelier of Balenciaga taught Ungaro about line and color. He still refers to what he learned about draping directly on the model. Later, working with Courreges, Ungaro participated in the Space Age hard chic of his mentor. Bio source-Answers.com |
