C.1910 This lovely dress is from the designer Miss Dunston of New York a well-known designer of her time. The dress is made up of black silk velvet, black silk and black silk net that is covered in beads and sequins. The black velvet bodice has rolled collar and lapel backed in white silk satin. The velvet does meet in the front but has an attached, center front, faux blouse of white satin covered with black net covered in silver sequins and silver faceted beads. The edges of this inset or fixed "blouse" can be seen running down the inside edge of the velvet lapels. The center front panel of the blouse laps right to left and snaps. There is an inner structure of white cotton that hooks up the center front. On the back of the bodice is a matching beaded and sequined net panel. Across the center front just above the waist is a band of satin covered in black sequins. The long narrow sleeves are black satin with beaded and sequined net over with a small ruffle at the wrist. The black velvet skirt is tightly gathered into the waistband that snaps around to secure on the left side with the left side come over the top to hook. The center front of the dress is matching black satin with two trailing sashes decorated with knotted cord fringe. A pleated sash of black satin crosses across the front right to left and snaps on the left side. The black velvet of the skirt is a bit shorter than the satin and is draped as an overskirt in front and tacked in place to the satin. There is an inner waistband stabilizer that also bears the name of "Dunston New York" One tiny repair to the velvet just in front of the left sleeve.
