1950s Designer

Bergdorf-Goodman customer couturier evening 2 pc dress. The fabric is a silk and velvet taffeta. The bustier bodice has a double bust of black ribbon silk over black silk velvet. Vertical lines on the gown are velvet. The center back zipper that is hidden by wrapped points that drape around from the front. The bodice tucks in behind the waistband of the skirt. The skirt has a curved center front yoke that ends to a point on the left side. The fullness of the skirt is pleated into the bottom seam line of the yoke. The yoke is accented with velvet covered buttons. On the lower tier the velvet bands run horizontally and become wider the lower on the skirt you go. This gown is, as mentioned, custom made and still has the buyers name and date on the inside label.

Ceil Chapman Blue silk brocade dress. The fabric has an Asian inspired print of a garden with women. He stlying of the dress is in the shirt waist stlye with a pleated skirt. The bodice closes with three covered buttons. The neckline is high and surrounded with a small standing collar. The center front is an open lap down to the first buton. The glove length sleeves have a turned back pointed cuff. The bodice and skirt join at the natural waistline. At the center front ofthe skirt is a 3-inch wide box pleat. Each pleatmoving away from center is doubled. The double pleats extend round the skirt ending at the center back inverted pleat. Side seam zipper. The dress is unlined.

Jerry Silverman day dress of a self-striped silk with a print of concentric circles of black, orange, rust and ivory. The dress is a shirt waist style with a matching off-width belt. The sleeves are moderately full with a single snap closure above the wide pointed cuff. The dress closes in front with hidden snaps and hooks. The skirt is slightly full and the dress is fully lined.

Jo Copeland silk floral 2 piece dress. The pattern is a floral in shades of red, pink and purple. The print is indistinct like a Monet painting but is not a water silk. The dress is a sundress style with long Princess seams and a deeply scooped neckline both front and back. The seams are single in front and double in back. The front seams release their slight bit of fullness into the skirt below the hip area. A center back zipper closes the dress. The bolero jacket closes center front with a single button that is covered by the self-tie that extends beyond the collar. The front of the jacket curves away to the sides opening up the center front of the dress. The sleeves are short.

A Pab golden yellow satin evening gown with small yellow tulle crinoline. The bodice is constructed in two sections; the bust which is a fitted bra style with a matching overlay of tucked fabric that stands away from the fitted portion. The second section is the tighly fitting mid-yoke that runs from beneath the bustline to the waistline seam. This area is accented with a narow bow in matching satin. The a-line full length skirt has a slight bell shape created by means of the angled pleats right and left of center front. The gown has a slight train and closes up the center back. There are a couple of tiny rust spots on the bow tails The Pab is not one I am familar with but the construction and fabric is outstanding quality.

Paul Sachs black silk crepe shirtwaist style dress with a jeweled pointed collar. The dress has medium sized matching fabric covered buttons that close the center front. The long sleeves have fullness at the shoulder seam and quickly begin to narrow through to the wrist. The bodice back is tightly gathered into the natural waistline seam. The skirt is a simple a-line. The dress has a side seam zipper to close.

Pauline Trigere black silk crepe evening dress with white satin pleated sash and bow. The label is her couture label which was black with white lettering. The dress has a deep v-neckline and sleeves that barely reach to the elbow which makes them perfect for long opera gloves. The sleeves have a series of four pleats along the inside seam. The dramatic white silk satin pleated sash and bow runs beneath the bust in front and dips to mid-back across the back of the dress. The skirt is made up of multiple horizontal bands of the black silk crepe that are slightly over 3 inches wide. The dress is unlined and closes up the center back with a zipper.

The dress is fully lined in cream colored silk crepe. The bodice has a squared-off neckline set wide upon the shoulder. The bodice has a barest cap sleeve. Two sets each of bust dart set at the waistline seam and radiating upwards toward the bust. The straight skirt and bodice join at the natural waistline. A center back zipper closes the dress.

At the center front of the deep v-neckline and set on the collar is a matching velvet rose. The dress is very form fitting hence the wiggle term. Center back zipper.
