C.1890S this is a mourning bonnet in unrelieved black crepe. It was hard to shoot because I had no real hair to pin the bonnet to. It should sit at the back of the head straight up. The crepe is all pleated and draped over and around itself creating a kind of bow with knot at the center front. The black silk tie and bow hook together with hook and eye. |

C.1890S Purple straw bonnet with lavender and purple violets across the front rolled and fluted straw brim. A dark purple silk bow is on the left side of the brim. Lilac silk ribbon is twisted around the brim and anchored with little puff on the back edges and then drapes to tie into a bow. The purple straw is woven in concentric circles with a red accent in the straw. |

C1870. Brown velvet toque with woven sides. The top of the hat is brown velvet with a large bow set at the front of the hat. The sides of the hat are braided matching brown velvet, the brim is also velvet. The brim is turned up and hidden behind the woven decoration. The attached woven piece is a basket weave design of lighter brown suede with maroon velvet along the top edge. There is rub on the velvet and the hat is lined in muslin. |

C. 1890s Wonderful toque in black wrapped straw rolls and black silk organza with black satin ribbon bow on the top. Further accenting the crown are black flowers and raven feathers. Black netting covers it all a drapes down the back. The white that you see is the tissue paper that keeps the bow loops full so they will not lay flat and run the risk of developing splits. The wrapped and rolled straw coils encircle the face of the toque and wrap down around to the underside. On the underside of the brim concentric circles of draped black silk organza. On the top of the hat are matching concentric circles of the black silk organza that narrow the closer the circles get to the ornamentation. The black satin bow sits atop a cluster of shiny raven blue-black feathers. A sprig of black silk flowers on long stems is attached to the side of the hat and then spreads out over the top of the toque peeking out from under the bow. Egret feathers are used in the flower buds so that you get the Egret feathers spraying out on a curving arc from the silk flowers. This is a very attractive hat and a great example of a toque, it is possible that this hat was for mourning but who knows since EVERYBODY wore black thanks to Queen Victoria and her obsession with mourning for what 40 years?! |

C.1880s Black horsehair cartwheel hat with black ostrich plumes and silk tulle. The Hat is set on a wire frame with a huge crown, although the inner crown was tiny. Hatpins were used to secure the hat to the hair that would have been dresses on the top of the ladies head. Black velvet ribbon surrounds the crown with black silk tulle extends above the velvet and crates a large puff on the side. Two large black ostrich plumes further decorate this hat. The hat is all original and is as found. |

C. 1916 Interesting winter white silk faille or light weight kind of weave, not sure. Gathered puffy edging around the brim. The fabric on the sides of the crown draped and tacked. Black silk cord decoration on front of the crown. Lining is gone. Condition: Excellent |

C. 1918 Wonderful natural straw hat with large rolled brim. Striped taffeta ribbon in chartreuse, blue, magenta, brown and white. Brass ornament with a large leaf and two rows of textured round balls set on a sweeping arc of brass. Lined in black polished cotton. Inside brim measures 24 inches. Excellent condition. |
