1950s Ladies Hats

Miss Carnegie black layered net wide brim hat with velvet bow accent. The 6 inch wide brim is made in layers of black silk tulle. The tow tiers of tulle number 25. The tiered tulle brim is set upon a black velvet edged black buckram form. The crown is covered in matching tulle that is pleated and draped horizontally around the crown. A black velvet ribbon drapes off the center back.

Beautiful deep navy blue finely woven straw hat. The 6 inch wide brim forms a hip at the base of the crown giving a graceful sweep to the brim. The crown tilts forward forming a short crown front and a tall back. The fine silk netting on the hat is secured into the crown/brim seam. The net drapes out over the brim and cascades down in front of the face to tied or overlapped at the throat. The hat is made it to sit slightly back cupping the head so that the hat itself tilts back ever so slightly to reveal the pink silk flowers decorating the under brim. The hat is created by Mabel Ellesworth of New York and carried by Chandler & Son of Boston.

The front of the brim is lightly flipped up and the back is completely flipped to the crown. The crown of the hat is shallow in front and dips deeper at the center back. The silk faille ribbon is worked to adjust and maintain the shape.

Lovely Leslie James natural colored straw hat with a very wide brim. The crown is shallow and small as per the style of the 30s. The hat perched on the head and was secured with a long hatpin or combs sewed into the hat. The crown is accented with a spray of pink and white flowers.

This is a halo-style hat covered in black sequins. The front is a half-inch turned up brim with a matching sequin bow. Directly behind this narrow little brim is the beginning of the crown although the actual center of the crown is open and the narrow crown section surrounds the head leaving the top of the head open.

Wide brim black straw hat with a jauntily angled tall crown. Black pleated horsehair is used to create a ruffle along the outer edge of the brim. The tall crown is angled forward and is encircled at its base with a black gross-grain ribbon that ends in a bow with the ends draping off the back of the brim. The brim is off-width and narrows from 5.5 inches to the back width of 3 inches.
